HAVEN NEWS
Walk the red carpet with The Haven on May 3

The glamorous entrances. The celebrities. The paparazzi. Even if you’re not a star, you’ll surely feel like one at The Lake County Haven’s annual Gala benefit on Saturday, May 3 from 6:30 p.m. - midnight at the Ivanhoe Country Club in Ivanhoe, Illinois.

Walking the red carpet will not only be great fun, but your attendance makes The Haven’s work possible. Proceeds from ticket sales, auctions and the raffle make up between 12 and 15% of the organization’s annual budget. With your help, The Haven provides shelter, food, clothing, crucial support services and, most important of all, hope, to homeless women and children.

Adding to the star power of the evening will be Celebrity Auctioneer and former Chicago Bear Bob Fisher, who was drafted in 1980 and played two seasons for the team, and will help kickstart what’s sure to be a spirited live auction.

AUCTION SNEAK-PREVIEW The hardworking Women’s Auxiliary is putting together an amazing auction block featuring great packages and opportunities. It’s still early, but here’s a sneak preview of the growing roster of great items.

  • Vacation Home Getaways
  • Weekend Getaways
  • Unbelievable Baubles
  • Sports Tickets Galore
  • Shopping Scores
  • Delicious Delights

The auction planners are still accepting items, and your creative ideas are welcomed and encouraged. It’s a great way to contribute to The Haven and can even be a promotional opportunity for a business. Some items from past auctions include gift certificates for restaurants, hotels, limos and salons; theater and sporting event tickets; timeshares; landscape goods or services; gourmet dinners and parties; classes and lessons; children’s furniture; and other goods or services, preferably valued at $100 or more. If you have ideas, call Mary Bird-Parks at (847)680-1870 or birdhaven2002@hotmail.com.

RAFFLE The excitement is already building around the fabulous prizes that await raffle winners this year. Cost is $100 per ticket and only 600 tickets will be sold. Winners will be drawn on May 3 and need not be present to win. Winner of the grand prize will be responsible for all taxes and license fees. If fewer than 450 tickets are sold, the Grand Prize awarded will be cash in an amount equal to one-half the proceeds from raffle ticket sales. Several raffle-selling events will be held at a variety of local businesses this spring, including Wildberry and Ace Hardware of Libertyville, Pasquesi’s Nursery in Lake Forest, Elements Car Wash in Mundelein and at The Haven’s 15-Year Anniversary Open House. Watch your mail for more information, and get your tickets early—they’re sure to go fast!

VOLUNTEER AWARDS The gala evening will also include presentation of the Bradley-Gretz Award to two outstanding volunteers. This award was created in honor of founders Peg Bradley and Mike Gretz to recognize outstanding volunteer contributions to the work of The Lake County Haven. Last year, Jamie Topolski and Debbi Duris received the award. All volunteers, auxiliary members, board and staff are invited to submit their nominations of deserving volunteers to Executive Director Cindy Harger by March 20. Once nominations are compiled, names and descriptions of services are e-mailed to everyone and all are invited to vote for two recipients.
