NEWS Bowles & Swan lead the Havenly Hollywood volunteer charge If you ask Tanis Bowles and Nancy Swan to describe the driving force behind their work as co-chairs on the 2008 Havenly Hollywood Gala slated for Saturday, May 3, 2008, the answer comes easily. “We both want to help women and children in need become strong, healthy, and independent,” said Bowles. Long-time Libertyville residents, friends, as well as fellow agents at Koenig & Strey GMAC Real Estate in Libertyville, Tanis and Nancy have been working hard to organize and coordinate volunteer efforts for the upcoming event. Both women attended past Gala events, and had participated in several Holiday Boutiques and other Auxiliary events over the past ten years. “Watching friends commit time and energy to The Haven throughout the years helped prompt our interest,” said Nancy. “And now, seeing our own efforts assisting families to gain independence and a new lease on life is very rewarding,” she said. Nancy and Tanis are chief volunteers among a number of employees in their office who are also involved with the Gala committee in a variety of key roles. For the second year in a row, Karina Formento, also an agent at the office, is chairing the Raffle Committee. Karina ushered in a new era for the raffle, with a brand-new car as the grand prize and other intriguing winnings. Last year’s raffle was a record-breaking fundraiser, and Karina looks forward to raising even more money this year. Several ticket-selling events are planned at local hot spots—watch your mail and e-mail for more information. Carolyn Diesi and Susan Lazaretto, also coworkers, chair the very challenging and exciting Live & Silent Auction Committee with the help of yet another colleague, Joanne Williams. Exciting sports items, vacations, jewelry, and Hollywood-themed surprises await gala attendees, along with a celebrity auctioneer. Suzanne Lingard, Board and Auxiliary treasurer and chair of the Sponsorship Committee, hopes that the 2008 gala equals or exceeds last year, which topped The Haven’s charts at $65,000. Stephanie Toral, The Haven’s “artist-in-residence”, will again create our beautiful invitations and programs, and Decorations Committee members, Janet Cooper, Lynn Graves and Marissa Zolna will carry out her vision throughout the beautiful Ivanhoe Club. Joy Schwerman and Auxiliary President Julie Daugs will make sure the 2,000-plus invitations are mailed promptly and Debby Spitzer, Public Relations chair for the Auxiliary, will spread the word near and far. Check-out chairs Debbi Duris and Susan Kirshner will work their magic as the Silent Auction comes to an organized finale, and Cyndi Anderson, Kathy Kilroy, Beth Shea and others will help to make this fabulous evening happen.
