VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES
There are many
different volunteer opportunities available at The Lake County Haven.
To
learn more, call our volunteer coordinator (Mary) at (847) 680-1870,
contact us online, or send an e-mail to
volunteer@lakecountyhaven.org
- Drivers:
We need people to drive clients to job interviews, drop children off
at daycare, and bring people to doctor's visits.
- Donation
Sorters: We need people to help us sort thorough our donations
and organize the items so that our clients can easily find what they
need. This work can be done anytime, any day.
- Fundraising:
We need volunteers to help develop fundraising ideas as well as plan
and organize events such as our holiday wish list and our spring gala,
"A Havenly Night." We also need help writing funding proposals.
- Mailers:
We need help sending out mass mailings several times throughout the
year.
- Babysitters:
Can you come over to play? There are many children here who would
love your company while their moms are busy with counseling, job training,
school, or work. Babysitting takes place at our shelter most weeknights
for two hours per night and during weekend days.
- Tutors:
The children at The Haven often have fallen behind their classmates
scholastically. You can help them catch up to their classmates and
improve their grades. Many women at The Haven work towards their General
Education Diploma (GED) and need help with their basic reading and
math skills.
- Grocery Shoppers:
Volunteers are needed to shop every Friday for groceries for the shelter.
Shopping lists are provided.
- Professional
Services: Occasionally there is a need for professionals to offer
services to Haven residents in the following areas: general medicine,
pediatrics, dentistry, OB/GYN care, optometry, and legal assistance.
Also, women require assistance with credit counseling and career counseling.
- Maintenance:
The Haven needs volunteers to perform various types of maintenance
work so that our shelter remains in good condition. This may include
cleaning, painting, plumbing repairs, etc.
- Computer Skills:
We can use your computer skills to help us keep our computers running,
maintain our Web site, update our software, or provide training.
If you belong to
a group that is looking for a project, there are many additional
opportunities available such as Wish List drives,
larger projects at the shelter, and conducting special events to benefit
The Haven such as a bake sale, car wash, etc.
Volunteer Forms
are available here.
